Les llavors de Berta Cáceres
Synopsis
The Honduran environmentalist and human rights defender Berta Cáceres was murdered in 2016. Around her death, a large web of interests tied to the business and financial project involved in the Agua Zarca hydroelectric project becomes evident. While European banks and companies have been crucial for the development of the project, the alliance between the communities in resistance and the organizations in Europe has been essential to stop it. However, the threats continue, as does the resistance on the ground against the extractivist model. “They thought that by killing Berta they would kill the struggle, but Berta was a seed that multiplied,” says Miriam Miranda, General Coordinator of the Honduran Black Fraternal Organization (OFRANEH).
